Google Search Gets More Human

Google, the most widely used search engine, is introducing an update that will think like a human.

Today, the company announced the Knowledge Graph, which connects ideas and results the way a human would.

As an example, if a user searches for “Taj Mahal,” the first three Google results that will come up are the monument, the name of a band, and the casino in Atlantic City, according to HubSpot Blog. Then, the searcher will be able to click which result he or she wanted and find more information on that topic.

The hope is that users will more accurately find what they’re looking for.

“To determine which facts searchers actually want to see, the Knowledge Graph looks at what other searchers have been asking Google about the item,” Hubspot writes, noting that users will have the chance to see new details and facts that “could open up a whole new set of inquiries.”

Marketers have long focused on SEO, HubSpot emphasizes, but Google’s new focus could help the search process evolve in the direction the company has always espoused: To allow people to write for humans instead of search engines.

Google isn’t the only search engine becoming more human these days. Bing has been working on a social search, where users can see results related to Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites. Perhaps the recent announcement from Google’s competitor caused them to up their game as well.
