Infographic: The Mobile E-Commerce Boom
In the past few years, we’ve really started to see e-commerce companies, particularly in the retail space, get creative with experimental and shoppable content. Some have kept it traditional with practical content. Others have called on famous actresses. A few have even went off the rails and decided to incorporate dead fish. Whatever the approach, now is the time of year when marketers get to see if all that digital experimentation is going to pay off.
But even with great content, brands won’t be able to maximize their returns if their sites aren’t optimized for changing consumption habits. As a new infographic, produced by Datanyze, points out, nearly half of all holiday purchases will be made online. That in itself may not surprise you, but how consumers are making these purchases might: This year, 11 percent of digital holiday shopping will take place on a phone, and nine percent will take place on a tablet. With online holiday shopping expected to hit an all-time high of $83 billion, mobile optimization and social outreach are essential parts of any marketing strategy.
While we’re on the subject of social: Consider using easy social logins to reduce shopping cart abandonment and optimize checkout flow. According to the infographic, more than two-thirds of online shopping cart additions are ultimately abandoned. Turning content into commerce may come down to convenience. If your customers have to create a new user account just to make a purchase, they may be more likely to avoid making a purchase.
