What Does It Take To Be a Chief Content Officer?
We’ve talked a lot about the rise of the chief content officer – but what exactly does it take to be one?
According to Clare McDermott, editor of the CMI’s “Chief Content Officer” magazine, the key to getting one of these jobs is having a solid mix of talents. “Some people mistake the role of the chief content officer as being akin to an editor-in-chief,” she explains to FINS in a recent piece entitled, “When Your Content Needs a Leader, Hire a Chief Content Officer.”
In reality, she argues, an officer needs to be both creative and analytical.“Writing and editing skills are important, but it is also a job where you have to understand analytics, know the role of social media, and know how content is distributed in addition to how it is created,” she explains.
