14 Classic Movies With Clickbait Titles
Is Die Hard really a great title, or has the movie just aged so well that we can’t separate the nomenclature from the creativity? What about When Harry Met Sally, which, without the talents of Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal, probably would’ve ended up as the name for a Hallmark Channel film?
Hollywood is obsessed with maximizing box-office sales and cultural impact, but for whatever reason, that obsession has never carried over into optimized titles. Clickbait has already taken over digital news. Literature, particularly nonfiction, now embraces titles that resemble the Upworthy canon. Why not movies?
Last week, out editorial team held a Slack brainstorm to come up with new titles for some of the most popular films of the last 40 years. Here are 14 classics, rebranded for your Friday pleasure.
