Social Media Advertising Takes Root on Tumblr

Tumblr, the blogging site that has seen a huge jump in usage in the past two years, recently announced that it’s introducing sponsored products on the site.

The placements, which will act as advertisements, will cost $25,000 per deal.

The two advertising options for brands on Tumblr will be seen on its spotlight and radar pages, according to Business 2 Community. The ads will appear with dollar signs next to them to distinguish that they were paid for, won’t be on individual blogs and need to fit in with with Tumblr’s “visual nature.”

“We are constantly delighted by the creative ways that brands use Tumblr, and are confident that the world’s greatest marketers and media companies will use these products to set a new bar for creative advertising on the web,” a Tumblr spokesperson told VentureBeat.

For marketers and advertisers, Tumblr’s announcement is a great opportunity to reach out to a new target audience.

Tumblr’s users are mostly under the age of 34 and are accustomed to a rich array of images, videos and graphics. Nearly 55 million blogs have found a home on Tumblr, according to Business 2 Community.

Social media advertising is increasingly becoming the next step for the industry.
