Hootsuite Scores a Real-Time Win With ‘Game of Thrones’ Spoof
Brands love the idea of hijacking real-time cultural events, such as last night’s much-hyped Season 4 premiere of Game of Thrones. But that can often go… not well. That’s why it’s so refreshing when you see a timely piece of branded content that totally nails it.
Simply put, Hootsuite’s GoT spoof, “A Game of Social Brands,” is just magical.
The social management dashboard took the most popular social media networks—Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Tumblr, Pinterest, and LinkedIn—and created a social media kingdom, with Hootsuite at its center.
Why? To bring an end to the social media war. (And, you know, market Hootsuite’s software.)
As you’re shown the sweeping landscape of the social kingdom, notice the YouTube Colosseum, where you can be entertained by cat videos and GoT spoilers; LinkedIn, where only the elite are welcome within its closed walls, and Twitter, with its giant freaking ivory tower.
This isn’t Hootsuite’s first try spoofing Game of Thrones. They first joined that war through its “Social Media Winter Is Coming” infographic last year, which was a hit with the social media community.
In complete GoT fashion, the infographic (below) details all the specs of each social realm and how they work against each other, which basically gives a history of the social war between the seven major “Houses” of social networking.
So dive in and enjoy. Just be sure to be careful while crossing the River Vine. If you don’t make it across in six seconds, you have to start all over again.
