PORTFOLIO+: Empowering Journalists With Data And Tools

Contently started in 2010 with a mission to connect quality writers with quality publishers. Today that vision remains, but has broadened: We aim to “Power The Next Generation Of Publishing.”

The media industry is changing, and to keep up, the creative talent that fuels it needs to be on the bleeding edge of innovation and technology. Over the last few years, companies like Behance and have stepped in to empower visual creators – artists, designers, and the like – to make ideas happen and spread their work. However, a gap has existed where journalists and storytellers live, struggling to build personal brands and make an impact as the economics of the web conspire to commoditize creativity.

I’m happy to announce that as of today, Contently is filling that gap.

For the better part of the past year, Contently has offered a build-your-own-portfolio system for writers on an invite-only basis. After hundreds of hours of user testing, listening to feedback, and technology development, we’re launching the next evolution of that product. It’s called PORTFOLIO+, and it’s free and open to any writer on the web.

Today’s journalists – especially freelancers – have a lot forced on them that isn’t what they do best (or often what they do at all). Website design. Sales. Accounting. Getting clients to pay on time. Taxes. SEO. The list goes on. With Contently’s Marketplace, we’re solving the sales and financial woes. With PORTFOLIO+, we’re solving the website design, personal branding, and SEO challenge.
