Paul Ryan’s Twitter Dominance

This infographic from Mashable shows just how fast the news about Mitt Romney’s vice president pick spread on Twitter. Tweets mentioning Paul Ryan peaked at 3,749 tweets per minute on Saturday morning after his selection was announced.

The candidate garnered 60,000 followers in the first eight hours after his new account, @PaulRyanVP, was established, and has raked in more than 97,000 in just over 48 hours.

MundoFox’s Big Debut

MundoFox, set to be a competitor against Univision and Telemundo, will make its debut today, according to the New York Times.

The $50 million network will debut in 50 American cities including Los Angeles, New York, and Miami. By the end of 2012, it will be, if all goes well, shown in 60 cities across the United States.

JC Penney’s Pushing Print

After a disappointing second quarter, AdAge reports that JC Penney is now focusing on print ads and business building rather than brand building.

The company is already making a comeback with its new approach. Traffic is down 7 percent, as opposed to the usual 14 percent of the last two quarters.

WIGS Channel a Hit Amongst Women on YouTube

Over the past three months, WIGS, a YouTube channel that produces high quality, women-centric dramas, has received 15 million views and 75,000 subscribers in only three months.

Gigaom attributes this success to its stars including Julia Stiles, Dakota Fanning, and Allison Janney, along with the women directors behind the camera.

Facebook’s Photo Group Feature

A new feature from Facebook allows people who have shared photos with others to see who has viewed the photos and at what time they were viewed, reports Business Insider. Users started using it this past weekend.

Another High Profile Journalist Admits to Plagiarism

Following the plagiarism revelations concerning New Yorker writer Jonah Lehrer last month, Time columnist and CNN host Fareed Zakaria has been suspended from both news organizations after admitting to plagiarizing pieces of an article on gun control written by the New Yorker’s Jill Lepore.

In a statement, he said, “I made a terrible mistake. It is a serious lapse and one that is entirely my fault. I apologize unreservedly to her, to my editors at Time, and to my readers.”
